DIAN SUCI - WINNER OF THE 10TH EDITION OF MAX MARA ART PRIZE OF WOMEN.

Max Mara, Collezione Maramotti and Museum MACAN are pleased to announce, along with prize curator Cecilia Alemani, that Dian Suci has been named winner of the tenth edition of the Max Mara Art Prize for Women.

The award will offer Dian Suci a six-month travelling residency in Italy and specifically tailored to the development of the project Suci proposed to the jury. This experience will culminate in a solo show at Museum MACAN in Jakarta in the summer of 2027; it will be presented again that autumn in Reggio Emilia, Italy, at Collezione Maramotti, which will acquire the works.

Dian Suci (b. 1985 in Kebumen, Indonesia) lives and works in Yogyakarta. Her work addresses issues connected to the political domestication of women, authoritarianism and fascism, the patriarchy and capitalism. Acutely aware of spatial composition, Suci employs a variety of media, including installation, painting, sculpture and video.

The project proposal with which the artist won the tenth edition of the Max Mara Art Prize for Women is titled Crafting Spirit: Cultural Dialogues in Heritage and Practice. It springs from her desire to explore the fallout of the encounter between religious artisan traditions and the capitalist system, through a comparative study of Italy and Indonesia.

2026 - Max Mara and Collezione Maramotti are pleased to announce an exciting new phase of the Max Mara Art Prize for Women.
Now in its tenth edition, the biennial award is roaming new territories, moving to a new country with each edition.
The first partner in this new direction of the Max Mara Art Prize for Women (2025-2027) will be the MACAN โ€“ Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara, Jakarta, Indonesia. The award will be curated by Cecilia Alemani, Director and Chief Curator of High Line Art in New York. In selecting the country and institution for each new edition, Alemani will continue her mission to support the work of emerging and mid-career female-identifying artists. This new beginning marks the conclusion of the long and fruitful partnership that Max Mara and Collezione Maramotti established in the United Kingdom with the Whitechapel Gallery in London, which has made an invaluable contribution to the growth of the award. The award aims to carry on making a fundamental contribution to the progress towards real equal opportunities for female artists, while building bridges with other parts of the world and stimulating diversity of expression, offering inspiration and positive role models to new generations of artists.

Max Mara, Collezione Maramotti and Museum MACAN - partners of the tenth Max Mara Art Prize for Women (2025-2027) - are pleased to announce the five shortlisted artists. The artists have been selected by a jury chaired by Cecilia Alemani and made up of Museum MACAN Director Venus Lau, curator Amanda Ariawan, gallerist Megan Arlin, collector Evelyn Halim and artist Melati Suryodarmo.

Max Mara Art Prize for Womenย

Max Mara has always been a symbol of the emancipation of women all over the world. Since its inception, the brand has been committed to creating clothes that not only enhance your appearance but also express your individuality.

Max Mara today reaffirms its commitment to supporting women through fashion, art and cinema. In 2005, this vision gave rise to the Max Mara Art Prize for Women: a tribute to female creativity and artistic innovation.

The Max Mara Art Prize for Women is one of the most prestigious awards, created to support female-identifying artists of all ages who have not yet achieved significant artistic recognition. This biennial award was established in 2005 by Max Mara in collaboration with the Whitechapel Gallery and was subsequently joined by the Collezione Maramotti in 2007. In 2025, the long and fruitful partnership established between Max Mara and Collezione Maramotti and the Whitechapel Gallery in London ended. So, for its tenth edition (2025-2027), the award has become nomadic, opening up to new destinations.

The winner will be awarded a six-month travelling residency in Italy. For each edition, Collezione Maramotti will create a travel itinerary specifically tailored to the artistโ€™s professional interests and personal needs, giving her the opportunity to focus on her research and the creation of new works, which will ultimately be exhibited in the partner museum for the current edition and in the Collezione Maramotti in Reggio Emilia, which will later acquire them.

The Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi and Collezione Maramotti presented โ€œTime for Women! Empowering Visions in 20 Years of the Max Mara Art Prize for Womenโ€, an exhibition that celebrated the twentieth anniversary of the Max Mara Art Prize for Women and the nine major female artists who won the award from 2005 to 2025.
